Citi sported many changes since our last meeting which did bring the suggestion of "Ringers" (Rory!) and the fact that many of their players were half the age of ours, we imagined we would be in a spot of bother.

In a first half spoiled only by persistent rain and the inept referee, Colin managed to somehow bag two goals. Another was added before half-time - and during that pause, we did discuss how we could forsee an onslaught in the second half.

Citi changed formation to 1-5-4 in the second half (aka "All Out Attack") and for the initial period, it seemed that this approach might pay off - but alas, as they tired, they relied on their defender plus the referee (again) to keep chances to a minimum - so we only scored 5 more.

Notable mentions - Dave D: everywhere he went, the ball went the other way; Colin: two teams so happy to see you not get a hat-trick; Kev - nailing Peter when he was in goal (suppose it saved me doing it ); Brett - 'bout time you got two mates to play linesmen (); Rory - every thought you picked the wrong girlfriend?

List of scorers to come, despite me playing up front and Colin's excellent delivery, I'm not on it.

Thanks must go to Swisslinx who picked up the tab for the pitch cost. It was so expensive as we needed a wide one to cope with Colin's crosses.

No-one? Nothing? Oh well, leave it to us then.

Two things in the pipeline, more details to follow but here is a brief intro:

1) An association with a Swiss club, would mean some of our players would play for them on Sundays in a "real" league. Interested?

2) Thanks to Aash - "Gruempli" (all day, six a side) tournament in Basel on the 30th June, we need to apply by the 17th June. Interested?

"Game against your workmates? Fine. Six a side tourney? Bring it on. Inter-Toto Cup? Ave it!

Seriously though, it'd be nice to get some games going, I think we can safely say we can get 13 together on any weeknight or any day of any weekend.

If we can play on some shiny grass company pitches then all the better....

It is with great sorrow that we send you this information detailing the arrangements for the funeral of Gavin Shaw Davis. Sadly, Gavin died in April 2007 at the close of an exhilarating week touring in the mountains of Wallis, Switzerland.

We are endeavouring to put a memorial book together so any photos, drawings, poems or thoughts would be gratefully received (use Saturday link on the right should you need to).

The game from 23rd September finished 6-5 to Footylist.  I don't know if that is the count of players, mind you!

I don't know how many remember the bad old days when we spent most of the game discussing offside, but they were pretty grim. However, I'm not sure the present 'there is no offside' is the best solution.

We all watch football, so we all know football is about movement - but with the current offside rule we tend to have 3 or 4 defenders from one side and 5 or 6 attackers from the other all permanenetly gathered in one half of the pitch, and the same for the other half.

I think this is also why people are so reluctant to play in defence.
You have wait about in your penalty box marking someone hanging around the goal. If you move forward he can just sit a mile offside.

Solution? Well, obviously arguing about who was offside after a goal is scored is out of the question, but why not 'gentlemen's offside'? This means attackers take it upon themselves to not goal hang, and defenders can prompt them: "Oi, mate, you're offside" before a pass is made.

Is this a perfect solution? No - even with linesmen and a ref, offside troubles football at the highest level. But it would I think make a difference.

Last week I said to a chap standing about 10 yeards behind the defence line, "Oi, mate, you're offside" - "There is no offside" was his response.

So I hung around my own penalty box marking him for about 10 mins. and then thought: "F_ this for a game of toy soldiers" and moved up to join the game - but of course the ball was played to him and being unmarked he scored.

With Gentlemen's offside, the chances are he would have moved onside and we would be playing football again.

It's hard enough getting players to play in defence, but asking them to hang about their own penalty box doing nothing seems silly. Anyway, it's just a suggestion.

Addendum: I get some stick for not going in goal (due to my finger tendon being made entirely out of scar tissue) - but I play at least half of each game as a defender (despite preferring to play forward or in central mid). How many chaps are there who play the whole game as forwards? We all like to score goals, but the game, at least to my mind, loses much when there are so often only 1 or 2 defenders.

But I am not complaining about the existence of these games; what I am really saying is simply why not schedule extra games which involve relatively few of us on different days than those traditionally put aside for regular games?

If we could, we would.  Anyone know a venue in a reasonable location we can use?

As you say, I have been somewhat erratic in my attendence this year, due to work commitments and the rather intense demands of two teenage kids.  Perhaps that's why having to miss games I can play in got up my nose somewhat!?

As far as I understand, this is a one-off and don't recall any other special events?  Was there not another extra game a few weeks ago?

Nope; but the 1st August session did not happen

Also, when I saw a second game pulled, it made me think that perhaps there would be more? thus I wanted to suggest these be scheduled for different days.
